Since build 5536 the Vista installation media has not included SATA drivers for a Toshiba Portege M400. Luckily you can supply the Toshiba RAID controller drivers on a USB key at the phase where you need to select your installation partition. However it does rely on your drive being configured as 0-RAID1 in the BIOS. If you drive is configured to be used as JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) then the Toshiba RAID driver will not suffice to get your disk seen by the installer.

If you are in this situation, enter the BIOS by pressing ESC during the POST and change the drive type to a RAID drive (the option is on the third page of settings). You will lose all partition information on the disk during this process, so back up your data first! You will need enter the code: 1234 (or whatever is printed in your user manual) to confirm the change.
