Virtual Server 2005 R2 - new, cheaper, pricing

Microsoft's announced new pricing for Virtual Server 2005 R2 (R2 was Service Pack 1 until it was renamed due to its focus beyond bugfixes). For standard edition, the cost is US$99 and Enterprise Edition is US$199. Details on the Virtual Server website.

First Microsoft cut pricing on Virtual Server 2005 R2 last November.

Then VMWare announced that VMWare Server (to replace VMWare GSX Server) would be free when released.

And now Microsoft has announced, effective immediately, that Virtual Server 2005 R2 will be free as well. You can download a copy from the Microsoft Virtual Server site. Also announced are Virtual Server Additions for a number of Linux distributions.
